SAND CEREMONY INSTRUCTIONS

(Note: Follow these directives as closely as possible.  They are the result of direct experience at many weddings!)

  1. Purchase three identical bud vases or the equivalent.

  2. Purchase one clear glass vase which will be large enough to hold all the contents of the three smaller containers.  Be sure that the large container in not too large.  You want to fill it up almost to the top with the contents of the smaller vases.  Otherwise it will not look good at all!

  3. Purchase three or four bags of SCENIC SAND from an art supply store.  Do not use beach sand or synthetic sand, which will blow away in the breeze!  Purchase enough GOLD GLITTER to fill one of the smaller vases.  Some couples have chosen another color such as blue or red etc.

  4. Be sure the larger vase has a wide mouth of at least four inches or more in diameter.  This will facilitate three people trying to put their sand into the same container at the same time.

  5. Prepare the vases well ahead of time and place them on a table behind the officiant.

  6. Alert your wedding coordinator and D.J., photographer, musicians that you will have music, pictures and pictures during this part of the ceremony.

  7. The result of the blending of the sand and glitter and the vase will become a lasting keepsake and may be displayed in your home.

More ideas:

Have the vases engraved with names of the bride and groom, date of wedding, intertwined rings or hearts.

Consider a procession up the aisle with small children carrying the vases and presenting them to the bride and groom.  Also, parents may present the vases to the bride and groom.
